Spencer Candidate Forum Scheduled for October 21

(Salisbury, NC – October 18, 2013)

The Rowan County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Candidate Forum for Spencer Board of Alderman Candidates. It is scheduled for 5-6:30 p.m. at the Spencer Fire Department, 208 S. Salisbury Ave. in Spencer. The purpose of the event is to educate voters about the candidates and their stands on issues of importance to the business community.

All candidates were invited to the forum. There are eight candidates for six seats. Mayor Jody Everhart is running unopposed. The Incumbent Candidates are Jim Gobble, Jeff Morris, Scott Benfield, David Smith, Kevin Jones and Reid Walters. Challengers are Mike Boone and Rashid Muhammad.

Chamber member and Downtown Salisbury, Inc. President Mark Lewis (Fidelty Bank) will ask the candidates questions submitted. Please send questions to be considered to info@rowanchamber.com. Chamber President Elaine Spalding will serve as timekeeper. The event is free and open to the public.

The Chamber holds annual Candidate Forums through the guidance of the Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee, which is chaired by Greg Edds (State Farm Insurance).  The objective of the committee is to enhance communication and discussion with local, federal and state governments on important issues relating to Rowan County, its municipalities, businesses and citizens. The committee is open to Chamber Members.

The committee reviews relevant local, state and national issues and makes policy recommendations to the Board of Directors. Particular areas of interest include business advocacy issues, community and economic development, land-use, infrastructure and transportation systems.
