Ribbon Cutting ceremonies symbolize new beginnings, as similar ceremonies have done for centuries. The event can be scheduled with The Chamber when a new business becomes a member, has an anniversary, opens a new location or has an expansion.

Symbolism: A new business uses a Ribbon Cutting ceremony to show the public that it is open for business. A ribbon can be stretched across an entryway to signify that what is behind the ribbon is waiting to be presented to the world.

History: Ribbon-cutting ceremonies started as early as 1898 for the opening of a railroad line in northern Louisiana. They became more common throughout the 1900s. Prominent events include the opening of the Disneyland Monorail in 1959 and the opening of the World Trade Center in 1973.

Features: At the Chamber's Ribbon Cutting ceremonies, city and county officials are invited to help celebrate an anniversary, new business opening, location or expansion. The business can also invite the public to celebrate and use our chamber membership list to market the event.  A large ribbon is stretched in front of the location and ceremoniously cut by the owner or manager with oversized scissors. A photograph is taken by the Chamber Staff and placed in The Salisbury Post. Photos are also posted on the Chamber's Facebook page for viewing and other use.

Benefits: The ceremony is a good marketing opportunity. It can be a main event for a week-long open-house or grand opening. Speeches and refreshments are up to the business.  You can access the Chamber’s event calendar to advertise your celebration whether it is a day or week.

Cost: Ribbon cuttings are a FREE benefit of Chamber membership and are held during the business weekday preferably Tuesday- Thursday 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m. (lunch served) or 4 p.m. Call us to book your event at least two weeks in advance at 704-633-4221.
